Frederick Noël Lawrence Poynter FLA (24 December 1908 – 11 March 1979) was a British librarian and medical historian. His influential contributions left an indelible mark on the field of medical history. Born in 1908, Poynter’s academic journey led him to become a leading figure in the preservation and dissemination of knowledge related to the history of medicine.

In 1958, Poynter played a pivotal role in founding the Faculty of the History of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Society of Apothecaries. His vision and leadership continued to shape the landscape of medical historiography, culminating in the establishment of the British Society for the History of Medicine (BSHM) in 1965.
